Style – it’s not necessarily just about fashion. I think we each have our own definition of style. Someone whose opinion I held dear once told me that I wasn’t stylish, I didn’t know fashion, and asked how in the world could I help other women with their colors and clothes. She was somewhat correct when comparing me to runway or magazine fashion. No, I’m not a fashionista. That was never my intention when I started on this business journey and it’s certainly not what my business is about. Instead, my goal has been to help other women find themselves, to find that person they can personally love and accept. Thus to be a woman and to love and accept yourself, you must practice honest self-care. Hence, my goal evolved into Find Yourself Style.
However, my definition of style is just that – mine. Style is about what you want it to be. For me, it’s all about being comfortable – with my clothes, with my color choices, with being who I am. If I am comfortable in being exactly who I am, my confidence in my creative self expression will be my style. I see style as more of a sense of self approval as I fill my own cup instead of dressing for others in an effort to receive validation and approval, or more or less, asking them to fill my cup for me.
Style is about what you want it to be. Just think about what Orson Welles had to say about style, “Style is knowing who you are, what you want to say, and not giving a damn.” I think that pretty much sums it up!!
I am stylish when I feel confident and empowered in my own skin. It doesn’t matter to me if someone else finds me stylish, and to be honest, if life circumstances allowed me, I would be a blue jeans, cute shirt, and boots or Van’s kind of girl everyday!
When I feel good about myself, when I know who I am and what I am about – it’s a good feeling. When I am being true to myself, honoring my personal values and know the clothes I am wearing are perfect for me – it’s a great feeling. Just take it from Coco Chanel — “Beauty begins the moment you decide to be yourself.”
Come on, I can’t be the only one who has experienced this. You know what I’m talking about, right? You have on a certain outfit or jewelry or your favorite lipstick, and those simple things alone empower you because you are being true to yourself! So you radiate with an unshakable confidence because you know your truth and nobody, not even the fashion runways, can convince you otherwise!
So go be yourself, find your own style and shine!
With style and confidence,
The Find Yourself Style Team
